The Intersil ISL4270E is a 3.0V to 5.5V powered RS-232 transceiver which meets ElA/TIA-232 and V.28/V.24 specifications, even at VCC = 3.0V. Additionally, it provides ±15KV ESD protection (IEC61000-4-2 Air Gap and Human Body Model) on transmitter outputs and receiver inputs (RS-232 pins). Targeted applications are PDAs, Palmtops, and notebook and laptop computers where the low operational, and even lower standby power consumption is critical. Efficient on-chip charge pumps, coupled with manual and enhanced automatic powerdown functions, reduce the standby Supply current to a 300nA trickle. Tiny 5mmx5mm Quad Flat No-Lead (QFN) packaging, and the use of small, low value capacitors ensure board space savings as well. Data rates greater than 250kbps are guaranteed at worst case load conditions.

General Description
The MAX3233E/MAX3235E are EIA/TIA-232 and V.28/V.24 communications interfaces with automatic shutdown/wake-up features, high data-rate capabilities, and enhanced electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection. All transmitter outputs and receiver inputs are protected to ±15KV using IEC 1000-4-2 Air-Gap Discharge, to ±8kV using IEC 1000-4-2 Contact Discharge, and to ±15KV using the Human Body Model. The MAX3233E operates from a +3.3V Supply; the MAX3235E operates from +5.0V.
All devices achieve a 1µA Supply current using Maxim’s revolutionary AutoShutdown Plus™ feature. These devices automatically enter a low-power shutdown mode when the following two conditions occur: either the RS-232 cable is disconnected or the transmitters of the connected peripherals are inactive, and the UART driving the transmitter inputs is inactive for more than 30 seconds. They turn on again when they sense a valid transition at any transmitter or receiver input. AutoShutdown Plus saves power without changes to the existing BIOS or operating system.

General Description
The MAX3238E/MAX3248E Transceivers use Maxim’s revolutionary AutoShutdown Plus™ feature to achieve 10nA Supply current. These devices shut down the on board power Supply and drivers when they do not sense a valid signal transition on either the receiver or transmitter inputs. This occurs if the RS-232 cable is disconnected or if the transmitters of the connected peripheral are turned off. The devices turn on again when a valid transition is applied to any RS-232 receiver or transmitter input. AutoShutdown Plus automatically achieves this power savings through its on-board circuitry, as no changes are required to the existing BIOS or operating system.

The ISL3332, ISL3333 are two port interface ICs where each port can be independently configured as a Single RS-485/422 transceiver, or as a Dual (2 Tx, 2 Rx) RS-232 transceiver. With both ports set to the same mode, two RS-485/RS-422 Transceivers, or four RS-232 Transceivers are available.
If either port is in RS-232 mode, the onboard charge pump generates RS-232 compliant ±5V Tx output levels from a Single VCC Supply as low as 3.15V. The Transceivers are RS-232 compliant, with the Rx inputs handling up to ±25V.
