Features
The Thermopile Sensor consists of a series of 44 thermoelements, forming a sensitive area of 0.5 x 0.5 mm2. The Sensor is hermetically sealed into a TO- 18 metal housing, with optical filter. This standard filter allows measurements to be made in the spectral range above 5 µm wavelength. The thermoSensor exhibits an almost white noise, comparable to an ohmic resistance. It has a constant signal versus frequency up to its frequency limit, and is directly proportional to incident radiation. The Thermopile Sensors are featured with an additional thermistor on the same package. The standard version of thermistor is housing conneccted to ground.

Description
The dual Thermopile Sensor TPS 2534 employs two single Thermopile chips mounted in a TO-5 housing with a 40 kΩ thermistor as temperature reference. The cap has two windows of size 2.3 x 2.6 mm2 each which can be equipped with different Infrared bandpass filters. The Sensor is perfectly suited to gas detection by IR absorption.

Description
The MLX90247C is a Thermopile Sensor IC which detects very small amounts of heat radiation. The Sensor consists of a membrane with a Thermopile on top of it.
The hot junctions of the Thermopile are positioned near the center of the membrane, the cold junctions above the bulk silicon edge.
Due to the low thermal conductivity of the membrane, absorbed heat will cause the temperature to increase more at the center of the membrane than at the edge above the bulk. This temperature difference is converted to an electric potential by the thermo-electric effect in the Thermopile junctions. No supply voltage is needed.
